I've decided to try to make these spiral tube socks using a thicker yarn and larger needles. I'll use them as slipper socks. I've been practicing sock knitting with larger needles until I feel comfortable with the techniques.
And no quilting yet...but everything "Christmas" is put away and life is calming down a bit. I've actually been thinking of ways to combine knitting, crocheting and quilting in a crazy quilt. We'll see if it works.
